Flexible Expansion Joint
Smart Seismic.Strong Future
As climate change increases the demand for clean water, traditional pipelines struggle to deliver reliable, cost-effective supply. Yung Yu’s ductile iron flexible expansion joints withstand environmental stress, reduce leakage, and lower maintenance costs
A New Era Requires New Solutions- Pipeline Upgrades!
Water is one of the planet’s most valuable resources, yet climate change, land subsidence, and constant traffic vibrations are placing increasing stress on pipeline systems. According to 2024 data from the Taiwan Water Corporation, leakage rates have reached 11.99%, with 60.14% attributed to load-induced vibrations. Traditional joints and straight pipes lack expansion flexibility, making them prone to loosening and leakage during earthquakes or construction activities.
Yung Yu Flexible Expansion Joints—Your Gate Keeper for Water Network
Yung Yu flexible expansion joints serve as a Seismic Resistant Joint, address the limitations of traditional pipes. Combining leak prevention, seismic resistance, expansion, and deflection in a single solution, these Seismic Resistant Joints effectively absorb ground vibrations and adapt to land settlement, making them ideal for highly dynamic environments.
High-Durability Materials for Diverse Applications
Manufactured from premium ductile iron (DI), this DI Flexible Joint delivers exceptional corrosion resistance and long-term structural durability, ensuring reliable operation even in challenging locations such as bridges, railways, and dams. By strengthening the resilience of modern water networks, it provides a stable and secure foundation for future water supply systems and infrastructure development.
Three Key Features of Flexible Expansion Joints
Superior Expansion Capacity to Withstand Axial Displacement
- Single-ball type: Expansion range from 100 mm (+70 / -30) to 200 mm (+150 / -50)
- Double-ball type: Expansion range from 100 mm (+70 / -30) to 600 mm (+350 / -250)
Multi-Directional Flexibility for Complex Terrains and Seismic Activities
- Single-ball type: Allows angular deflection up to 20°
- Double-ball type: Allows angular deflection up to 40°
- Capable of adapting to areas with uneven ground or soil settlement during construction phase
- Effectively accommodates large angular movements caused by ground subsidence, bridge displacement, and other structural shifts post-construction.
- With robust pull-out resistance — calculated as 0.3 × pipe diameter (mm) tons — the joints ensure secure installation and long-term durability across diverse geological conditions.
High Offset Range to Prevent Joint Detachment
- Designed with wide offset range, the joint effectively accommodates lateral displacement without causing fracture.
- Double-ball type: Provides lateral displacement range of 100 mm to 600 mm. (Note: Single-sphere type has no offset capability.)
- Even under maximum displacement conditions, the pipeline axis retains sufficient expansion allowance to maintain system integrity.
Applications of Flexible Expansion Joints
In unstable terrains—such as ground interfaces, soft soil, and railway embankments—traditional pipes are prone to cracking and leakage due to their inability to accommodate land subsidence and long-term vibration-induced misalignment. Flexible joints, with both expansion and angular flexibility, absorb multidirectional deformation, reduce the risk of pipe damage, and enhance system resilience. They are widely used in vertical pipelines, water pipe bridges, bridge piers, buried pipelines, and various building applications, providing a reliable solution for challenging conditions.
